i'm tired

i just got home from school. when i walked in and looked at the clock it was 7:45. pm. that means i've been at school for nearly 13 hours.

can you tell grades are due this week??

goodbye budget!

i definitely went shopping yesterday. and i was definitely successful!! :)
i only went to two stores and that's all i needed. let me share!

then i stopped by nordstrom. oh nordstrom. where have you been all my life?? i'm learning tis better to invest in a few great pieces than buy a bunch of "eh" pieces that i won't love and wear. ya feel?

very soft and very flattering, especially on a petite girl like me. i found a sweet little beige lace nautical jacket to pair with it...but i couldn't find a picture of that to share.

love. i have a feeling this will become one of my favorite pieces of the summer. soft, fitting, and a gorgeous ice color. score!

i had no intentions of getting any jewelry but the lovely associate at nordstorm built entire little outfits for me in my dressing room. what? a helpful sales person? wow! the necklace went great with a couple of flowy flowery tops i bought (i couldn't find pics of those either...darn it!).

the best part of the day? hanging out with lynette. :)

today? grading papers. total let down from yesterday. good thing i have some fantastic coffee to get me through!

i was reading this book the other night and came across this quote...

seriously.

i woke up this morning and thought about how incredibly blessed i am. people, places, experiences. both good and bad. i'm still grateful. as i thought about the important people in my life, i realized (again!) that i gravitate towards those who bring something into my life, who know how to laugh and smile, who want to enjoy life rather than focus on the negative.

and yet i still find myself being dragged down by the fun suckers. or rather, the fun sucker environments i find myself in. or rather, allowing people to dump their toxic sh!t on me while they walk away feeling lighter and i leave feeling the weight of the world on my shoulders.

so i'll be clearing the cobwebs and making some changes. i'm done being a magnet for suck. even Karen thinks so!

Friday

oh friday. i've been waiting for you all week. you should've showed up yesterday but i'm glad you're here today nonetheless.

1. the weather needs to make up its mind. i wore rainboots twice this week and felt like i complete fool when it rained while i was wearing my tennis shoes. wow.

2. i've gone out with a great friend every night this week. (well...including my love scott) it's done wonders for me! it's so nice to go out and laugh! you know, laughter? it seems to be rare around these parts lately. so it's nice to get it when i can.

3. jen and i laughed our asses off on wednesday. i can't share much (please please jen be a guest on my blog!!) but this monstrosity of an event that is supposed to take place soon is going to be absolutely epic! i have asked her to please video tape. because honestly? if that thing ever makes it onto youtube it will get millions of hits!!

4. i'm continually amazed at how selfish and self centered people are. it's all about what is best for them or what they need irregardless of anyone else. it scares me that this is what we are teaching our children. this world is coming to and end soon.

5. did i mention that it's friday?? :) and i'm going shopping tomorrow with a friend? my hope is that if i buy some bright and springy clothes that maybe mother nature will take a cue and keep the sun out for a few consecutive days. please!

It made me cry

I was relaxing this morning...which was awesome. It's a new thing I've been working on. And I mean that literally because I don't relax very often. ;)

So I was checking out some of my favorite blogs. And I came across a post by Elise where she posted about Les Miserables.

Can I just tell you how much I adore this play? Can I just tell you how much I sang this particular song? I actually recorded this song. And hearing this again? It created a stirring in me, in my heart. I sang all through junior high, high school, and college. 8 years of my life. It was only until I started teaching that I stopped singing. And I miss it incredibly. I feel like I need it back in my life again.

Any suggestions??

You don't need a thicker skin. People just need to realize that when they do nothing but complain all the time, no one is really all that interested. We all have "stuff" to deal with. It's easier to be an ear for those folks who a) vent briefly & move on to happier topics and b) save the complaints for things actually worth complaining about. So no, you don't need a thicker skin. *They* need to put on their big girl (or boy) pants & just deal; it's called LIFE

i am...

...so tired! i HATE time change. it always takes me awhile to adjust, but i'm seriously dragging today. it could have something to do with the fact that i had a nightmare last night that i woke up at 7:15...which is when i LEAVE the house for work. needless to say, i had a super tough time staying asleep the rest of the night. as in a woke up at 2:30, 3:30, 4:15, 5:15...sigh.

...the orange tree outside is blooming and now i TOTALLY know what dawn is talking about! it smells A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.

...i had top raman for dinner on friday. (see post below) i have no problem with top raman. it just wasn't supposed to be on the menu. ironically, i still haven't heard a thing from the flaker. it makes me want to throw top raman at her. no, really.

...i'm convinced i'm a magnet for complainers. it's almost laughable if it wasn't just so darn sad. i've been told i need thicker skin. i'm working on a wet suit. does that count??

...for the first time, in the past 3 years, i will not be receiving a pink slip! do you know how amazing that is?? especially since i have been listening to doom and gloom for the past month warning me and "preparing" me for the inevitable. but the principal informed me today that there will not be a RIF notice issued to my dept this year. haha state of california! take that!
(no really, i am SO incredibly thankful! i hid it well at lunch but i did want to cry out of pure gratefulness.)

glutton for punishment over here agreed to spend time with said "friend" again. she picked thursday of last week. i could just hear it in her voice when i called her to ask her where to meet up so i gave her an out.
"would next week work better for you?"
"well...ya. i'm going to vegas this weekend and haven't packed yet."
if you're leaving for vegas on friday and you've scheduled to hang out with your friend on thursday then wouldn't it make sense to pack on wednesday? aparently logic didn't win out on this one.
"well i'm busy monday and tuesday."
"how about wednesday?"
"ok just give me a call when you come back. have a fun trip!"
"ok! bye!"

yesterday (wednesday) i left school at 530. i got home by 545. i looked at the clock and smiled.

....

and then i spent the night eating top raman and studying for ap bio. because my "friend" flaked on me. again.

no phone call. no text message. no apology.

no more.
