my students do tug at my heart. i had a lengthy conversation today with one of the ap's about how i want to save all of my students. i want to take them home and feed them and make them do their homework. i want to protect them. from themselves. from their peers. (sometimes) from their parents. from the meanness of the world. so when they come to me i don't turn them away. yes, it's a burden on me. yes, it's the reason why i stay at work so late and work at home. but i can't turn them away. and in return, most would do anything for me. staying the night though? they wish.

i talked to a teacher today about said student. she asked if i have ever had to discipline him. "no. he actually is a really really good kid in my class. i'm shocked that he's not in yours."

ok, mock me if you must, but i have recently completely fallen head-over-heels for this song. (and the boy behind the voice!) as in i have listened to it a good 20 times and have made it a ring tone on my phone. this isn't really my type of music but i'm loving it. i was introduced to this song by a student who made me a "love" cd. but that's a whole other post for another day.

i love me some music. i think it can totally create a mood. i will listen to certain play lists depending on how i'm feeling at that moment. pensive, happy, sad, angry, gonna kick some ass (yes, i have that play list too!).

i want to show kids that there is so much more than just the silly things they get caught up in. there is more out there than this room, this school, this town. i want to teach them to appreciate each other. their differences are what make them special and unique. so it's been a pretty busy week. i have been all over the place! so i figure this post can be equally as random.

school:
as much as i try to deny it, the proof is now in front of me.

friends:
i have gone out EVERY SINGLE night this past week! ok...so i always thought that teachers taught and then went home. the end. not me! i had to just sit back and laugh when i thought about it. and the strange thing is i have been less tired this week than i have in previous ones. and don't worry...i shared the love among many friends.

it's nice to know that people want to spend time with me. the only problem is i then have no time for myself. i give all day at school, i give after school to my colleagues, and after i leave school i give more of my time and energy to whomever asks for it.

life:
but i am LOVING life! and i'm feeling very sorry for friends who are not having as much fun as i am. friends who say that i have been out more this week than they have in the last few months. friends who should be going out and having fun with me rather than sitting in and settling.

in all honesty, my life is quite chaotic right now. there is a ton going on in my professional life and in my private life. professionally i'm growing as a teacher, finding my style, building rapport with my students, and finally learning to love my job. i knew it was in me. i knew it was right. i just needed to learn how to look at it. it's a conscious effort i have to make every day but it's getting easier. and that is good. the private life is...well it is what it is. I'm finding myself taking stolen moments here and there to just stop and reflect. because i don't deal well with a million things (and people) at once. because i don't just forget about people. because i don't just turn it off. because I'm not that kind of girl. but after this week, I'm trying to figure out what "kind of girl" i really am. sigh...i should just stop worrying and start enjoying.

can i just tell you how much i love it? i have been expanding my collection this week and it's a smorgasbord of songs. i've been losing myself in it. such a good way to sit and reflect. i swear dashboard confessional, rascall flatts, and snow patrol know my life and then write songs about it. i just hope that things are as simple as chasing cars and lying in grass between dusk and summer.
